Federation releases toolkit to end violence against women
December 5, 2008
On the eve of the National Day of Action and Remembrance to End Violence Against Women, the B.C. Federation of Labour is releasing a community lobby toolkit on violence against women.
The kit includes background information, lobbying tools and organizing strategies to create change in communities around the province.
"This kit gives people tools and strategies that they can use to begin to tackle violence against women in their own communities," says Angela Schira, Secretary-Treasurer of the B.C. Federation of Labour. "This toolkit means women will have others recognize the seriousness of violence against women and work towards change."
The Federation is asking municipal governments to work with women in their community to conduct safety audits and take concrete measure to address violence against women.
The toolkit will be released at a breakfast tomorrow morning.
Guest Speakers include:
Angela Schira, Secretary-Treasurer, B.C. Federation of Labour
Tracy Porteous, Executive Director, BC Association of Specialized Victim Assistance and Counselling Programs
Gladys Radek, Aboriginal Activist and Organizer of the Walk for Justice
