The World is Watching! Support our Ambulance Paramedics!
Date: Wednesday January 27, 2010 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
CUPE BC is organizing a major show of solidarity to defend collective bargaining rights and in support of our ambulance paramedics outside Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way .
On November 7, 2009, the BC Liberals made shameful Canadian history by legislating Ambulance Paramedics, CUPE 873, back to work while they were in the midst of voting on a contract offer from that very same government.
The message was clear - they don’t have to negotiate - they can legislate.
CUPE members, joined by many other union sisters and brothers across BC, have marched, rallied and protested at BC Liberal Party functions, Liberal MLA Offices and VANOC as well as conducting a host of other public expressions of our refusal to accept imposed contracts.
There are only a few opportunities left to show our opposition to such legislation prior to the opening of the Olympics on February 12th. Come out for short speeches, good music, hamburgers and hot dogs.
Keynote speakers inlcude CUPE BC President Barry O'Neill, CUPE Local 873 President John Strohmaier, CLC President Ken Georgetti, USW Director Steve Hunt and BCGEU President Darryl Walker.
Together we can send a very strong message to Premier Campbell and the Liberals that they cannot attack free collective bargaining rights.
This is about all union members in BC - your members could be next.
